After a few players left the IPL midway due to personal concerns, an umpire has also joined the list. After the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa left the IPL bio bubble, Indian umpire Nitin Menon has left the tournament midway too.

With the entire country going through such a grim situation, and with Covid-19 wreaking havoc, Menon left the IPL bio bubble to be with his family. Nitin Menon’s wife and mother had both tested positive for coronavirus, and Menon left the tournament to take care of them.

And now, Menon has opened up on the break that he took from his officiating duties. He said that he is currently in the hospital with his family members. The umpire concluded by stating that he is currently on a break, and will be taking care of his family.

“I am in hospital and taking care of my family members. I am on a break. Have to see my family,” said Menon as quoted by the Times of India.

14th IPL edition to run till 30th May 2021

In spite of several players pulling out of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is confident that the IPL will run as per schedule.  The 2021 edition of the IPL is nearing the halfway mark, and 25 matches have already been completed.

A total of 60 matches will be played in the tournament. The 2021 IPL edition, which commenced on 9th April 2021 will conclude on 30th May 2021.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side has been on a roll in this tournament and is currently occupying the top place in the points table, after having won 5 out of the 6 matches that they have played in the 14th IPL edition. Apart from Chennai, the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) sides have also won 5 matches apiece, and are occupying the 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the IPL points table.

The team that has experienced the least success in the 2021 IPL edition is the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side. The David Warner-led outfit has just managed to win 1 out of the 6 matches that they have played thus far and are placed at 8th place in the table.
